James V. Toscano

Jim Toscano brings over 50 years of experience in nonprofit management, strategic planning, capital campaigns, and governance. He began his career teaching at the Wharton School before leading the World Press Institute and serving as head of development at Macalester College. He later joined the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts as VP for Resource Development and Public Affairs. At the request of the Minnesota Attorney General, he led a turnaround at the Minnesota Museum of American Art, followed by 25 years in research and education leadership at Park Nicollet Medical Center, where he also named the organization. He concluded his healthcare career as president of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation and later worked for over a decade as a nonprofit consultant.


Jim has served on more than 50 boards and commissions, including the Minnesota Health Care Commission, the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. He co-chaired the development of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits’ Principles and Practices for Nonprofit Excellence, and taught graduate nonprofit management at the University of St. Thomas and Hamline University. A graduate of Rutgers and Yale, he is a Marquis Fellow and has been listed in Who’s Who in America for over 30 years.
