Feed the Mass Culinary Academy is a hands-on youth cooking program where young people ages 11–18 build real kitchen skills, confidence, and community through food. In our Fall 2026 Harvest Kitchen: Skills for Life series, students will learn knife safety, baking, pasta making, world cuisine, meal preparation, teamwork, and more—all in a welcoming, supportive kitchen environment. Each class gives students the opportunity to cook, create, taste, and grow while learning skills they can use for life.
Fall 2026 Culinary Academy
Harvest Kitchen: Skills for Life is a hands-on fall cooking program for youth ages 11–18. Students build practical kitchen skills, confidence, cultural curiosity, teamwork, and leadership through two guided classes each week. Each session follows the Feed the Mass teaching model: welcome and safety check, instructor demonstration, team cooking, tasting and reflection, and a complete cleanup and sanitation close.
What Will They Learn?
Participants will build hands-on skills through a structured weekly curriculum. Students will learn:
- Kitchen safety, sanitation, and safe food handling
- How to read recipes and follow step-by-step instructions
- Measuring, prepping, and using kitchen tools correctly
- Teamwork, communication, and time management
- Confidence in preparing food independently
- Creativity, problem-solving, and pride in making something with their own hands
- A deeper understanding of food, nutrition, and cultural connection through cooking

Frequently Asked Questions
Who may attend? Youth ages 11–18. Beginners are welcome; no prior cooking experience is required.
Where is class? Feed the Mass HQ / the Nourish Building, 34 NW 1st Ave., Portland, OR 97209.
What does registration cost? $35 for this class. The full 18-class, nine-week program is $504 after the 20% package discount (regularly $630).
How large is the class? Enrollment is limited to 16 students so each participant receives hands-on instruction.
What is included? Guided instruction, ingredients, shared equipment, recipes, tasting, and hands-on kitchen experience are included.
May parents or guardians stay? Yes, subject to kitchen safety and space limits.
What should students wear? Closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing; long hair must be secured.
How are allergies handled? List every allergy and dietary need during registration. Feed the Mass will review reasonable substitutions, but the teaching kitchen uses shared equipment and cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment.
What if a student misses class? Missed classes are generally not transferable or refundable because food and staffing are prepared in advance.
